SOUTHERN ‘SCAPES

I’ve never been a particular fan of the term “landscape.” It’s clear enough, but a bit limiting and 2-dimensional for the task of defining this genre. I prefer a term i came up with – “placescapes” – which seems to better capture the objective: to discover/uncover a “sense of place” in whatever the subject or location may be. Big or small, intimate or grand, indoors or out, realistic or abstract, atmospheric or naturalistic, with people or without. I would even suggest that a well taken portrait is its own kind of “placescape.” The ones included here are mostly modest in ambition and southern in flavor having been taken primarily in Palm Beach and Cabo San Lucas. Enjoy the trip.
